The game is also reminiscent of the novel "Lord of the Flies" since it involves young girls who form a society completely without adult supervision. The game’s story lines were heavily influenced by the classic fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm and the stories of Edward Gorey. Many of the episodic stories within the overarching narrative end with Jennifer fainting and then waking up in a completely different place with no explanation of how she got there. This gives "Rule of Rose" a very dream like quality that makes it difficult to determine what elements of her experiences are true. The more you play this game, the more you come to realize that her memories and perceptions may be distortions. Was Jennifer really kidnapped, or is she the survivor of a massacre at the orphanage? Could she actually be a survivor of the same airship crash that took the lives of her parents?Jennifer is a classic unreliable narrator. Eventually, however, it becomes clear that nothing in this world is as it seems. Once there, she is kidnapped by members of the mysterious Aristocracy of the Red Crayon. In 1930, Jennifer is sent to the Rose Garden Orphanage after her parents die in a tragic accident. And if he means it by the storytelling, then he was very on point. ![]() Game Director Shuji Ishikawa intended to make an interactive horror movie, but not in the sense we now know interactive horror movies. It's a very dark, violent, horrifying experience, and that's exactly what they were looking for. This title is tough to recommend, not because it isn't good, but because it certainly isn't for everybody. And even though these games are not related, both are Japanese psychological horrors, only that the Silent Hill series became much more mainstream. Looking back at it, this console also delivered the best titles in the Silent Hill franchise. This game ends up falling in the Survival/Psychological Horror category, one in which the PS2 excels. A very mature (in any way possible) title that's intended for very mature audiences. But we'll say no more of the plot since it would be pretty hard to understand without actually talking it thoroughly.įull of surrealism and twisted metaphors, the plot of the game develops interestingly and excellently. This ship is controlled by some crazy evil kids who engage in all kinds of depraved, horrible acts throughout the game. She ends up in an airship going that flies to an unknown location. ![]() In the middle of nowhere, she tries to follow the kid to at least return the book, but that leads her to a horrible turn of events. ![]()
